I blame it on the rug. It is the rug’s fault that I had to spend a Saturday in the electronics departments of five different stores browsing through flat panel lcd televisions. You may be wondering how a rug and flat panel lcd televisions could possibly be connected, but in my mind the bond is clear as day.
Our introduction to flat panel lcd televisions started when our youngest spilled paint and the dog walked through it and then tracked it all over our living room rug. I tried to clean it up, but the stain didn’t cooperate. The whole rug had to be replaced. Once the rug was replaced, it was so pristine that the couch looked quite shabby in comparison. Once we got a new couch the scratches in the old coffee table were quite obvious. The new coffee table didn’t match the old entertainment center so we considered getting a new one. That is when my husband brought up the words, flat panel lcd televisions.
I wasn’t against spending the money. Who was I to complain? I had just emptied the savings account refurnishing the entire living room. If my husband wanted to look at flat panel lcd televisions, that was fine. What I objected to was spending a whole Saturday in the electronics department of five different stores looking through the same flat panel LCD televisions we had looked at everywhere else we had visited.
When I mentioned this to my husband he just rolled his eyes and it dawned on me that for him the experience of browsing through flat panel lcd televisions was just as exciting as actually owning one. He eagerly debated with the clerk about the pros and cons between flat panel lcd televisions and plasma screens.
As I listened to him sell the salesman on the advantages of flat panel lcd televisions I realized that all televisions aren’t created equal. Up until that moment the most thought I gave the TV was wondering where the remote could be. Obviously there was more to a television than easy access to channel changing.
I listened to him talk about flat panel lcd televisions being used as computer monitors and I could just picture myself sitting in the living room, sipping coffee and typing out letters on a giant screen mounted on my wall. I could see the advantages a large screen would have on eye stress. I was warming up to the idea of flat panel lcd televisions, when it hit me. Who was I kidding? There would be no using this television for a computer screen. If a TV this large entered my house, every sporting event that is televised from the Super Bowl to bowling would be viewed on this TV. I would be lucky to ever get a peek at something I wanted to watch.
Of course that meant I would often have the kitchen all to myself!
"We’ll take it!" I grinned.
